What does De Opkamer specialise in?
De Opkamer is a family-run business with over 30 years of experience in reclaimed building materials. Based in Made, the Netherlands, we serve private clients, architects, and designers across Europe and beyond. We specialise in antique fireplaces, reclaimed natural stone floors, reclaimed terracotta tiles, antique garden ornaments, and unique antique objects.
At our Kerkdijk 1a site, you’ll find the heart of our company: a warehouse, covered storage, workshops, and two in-house ateliers. This is where we clean, sort and restore materials — from antique fireplaces to salvaged floors and bricks.
We ship worldwide and handle full export logistics, including antique declarations, ISPM15-certified crates, and customs paperwork — especially for the USA, UK, Switzerland and Australia.
Looking for high-quality reclaimed building materials with soul? You’re in the right place.

Do you offer collaboration opportunities for trade professionals, such as (interior) architects and contractors?
Certainly! We enjoy working with professionals — from interior designers and architects to constructors and landscape specialists — and we prefer to build long-term relationships based on trust and continuity.
That’s why we offer a Dedicated Trade Program. Verified professionals can create a trade account via the Sign Up button on our website. This provides full access to all prices, including net trade rates, the ability to reserve pieces online, and early access to new arrivals. In your personal dashboard, you can also set your preferred currency (EUR, USD or GBP) and display dimensions in inches or centimetres.
That said, private clients remain at the heart of what we do — many of our finest pieces find their way into private homes. Our full collection is available to everyone, and we’re always happy to assist you personally.
-
Can an antique fireplace or other item be reserved?
Absolutely. We completely understand that you may need some time to consult with your client, partner, or interior designer before making a decision. Just let us know which pieces you’re interested in — we’re happy to place them on hold for seven days, with no obligation. If someone else shows serious interest during that time, we’ll always contact you first.
-
I have seen a unique piece, but our project hasn’t started yet — can I purchase it now?
Yes, absolutely. Many of our pieces are one of a kind, and we completely understand the desire to secure something special — even if installation is still far off.
You’re very welcome to purchase the piece now. We’ll immediately remove it from our website, pack it securely in a custom-made crate, and store it safely and dry in our warehouse free of charge, for as long as needed. To reserve the piece exclusively for you, we only ask for a 20% deposit. The remaining balance is due prior to shipment. A hassle-free solution with full peace of mind.

How does shipping work for deliveries outside the EU (by sea or air)?
When shipping overseas outside the EU (by sea or air), we typically offer two options — depending on what suits you best:
✔️ 1. You arrange your own transport (EXW or FCA)
If you prefer to handle shipping yourself, you're welcome to collect the goods directly from our warehouse in the Netherlands (EXW – Ex Works).
On request, we can securely pack your purchase in a fumigated ISPM 15 export crate, suitable for international sea or air freight (FCA – Free Carrier). This ensures the shipment meets all global standards for customs clearance and safe transit.✔️ 2. We take care for the full logistics process (DAP).
Most of our international clients choose our full-service shipping option, which includes export documentation, ISPM 15-compliant crating, sea or air freight, import paperwork & ISF filing (e.g., for the U.S.) and delivery to your construction site or specified address (DAP – Delivered at Place).
In this case, the only thing you may need to settle locally is any applicable import duties or VAT — if required by your country.
Good to know: antique goods are often exempt from import duties, or subject to reduced rates, depending on local regulations. -

Do I need to pay VAT ?
That depends on where you're located and whether you're buying as a private customer or through a business. We're happy to explain the options:
✔️ Private customers within the EU
We are required to apply the local VAT rate of the delivery country.
For example:
– Delivery to Denmark → 25% VAT
– Delivery to Ibiza - Spain → 21% VAT✔️ Business customers within the EU
If your company is based in the EU (outside the Netherlands) and registered for VAT, we can provide an invoice without VAT under the intra-community supply (ICS) rules. Just be sure to share a valid VAT number with us when ordering — we’ll take care of the rest.✔️ Deliveries outside the EU (e.g. UK, Switzerland, Norway, USA, Australia)
All exports outside the European Union are exempt from EU VAT — whether you are a private customer or a business.
Please note: local import taxes or duties may still apply, depending on your country’s regulations. If you're unsure whether your country applies local import taxes or duties, we're happy to advise or help you check. -
Are the antique fireplaces, floors and garden ornaments available from stock?
Antique and unique items such as our fireplaces, garden ornaments and fountains are available directly from stock. We make sure they are carefully packed and ready for fast and secure worldwide shipping.
If you are ordering a custom-made limestone fireplace, the expected lead time is approximately 6 to 10 weeks, depending on the current workload in our workshop in France.
For our reclaimed flooring – including Bourgogne limestone slabs, antique terracotta tiles or old Carrara marble – we aim to keep a large and varied stock. However, since these floors are sometimes rare and hard to source, delivery times may occasionally extend to 2 to 3 months. We're happy to help you find the perfect match.

We always prefer that you visit our showroom and warehouses to view the collection in person.
However, we completely understand that this isn’t always possible — due to distance or time constraints. And we also know it can feel like a big step to purchase a unique item without seeing it first-hand.That’s why we take the time to provide clear, honest photographs and detailed close-ups. On request, we’re happy to send additional images or a short video showing the surface texture, patina, and any minor irregularities.
What we often hear from clients: “It’s even more beautiful in real life than in the photos.”
Because only when you see and touch the piece do you truly feel its warmth, character, and the story it carries — something a screen can never fully capture. Finally, we pack each piece securely in a custom-made wooden crate to ensure safe, damage-free delivery.
